The government says the move is needed to protect the country's national security and respond to growing threats linked to the group.

The UK Home Office says the IRGC has been involved in threats from foreign powers, cyberattacks, and plots targeting people inside Britain. 

Officials say the decision follows allegations that the group planned to kill two journalists from Iran International TV and was linked to cyberattacks against British targets. 

The UK says banning the IRGC is an important step to protect national security and public safety.
